The Mine Disaster & Window Washer

These are my two works from final friday I chose. I took these at the wichita art gallery, against their will, but here they are. I really like the Mine Disaster because it dates back to 1942 and shows a glimpse of history and how dangerous mining was back then. It represents the concerned families waiting behind a small fence to get word of whether their loved ones were alive or not. It depicts reality and I like that, and the same goes for the Window Washer. I like how it pictures real life with two window washers. Also, the level of detail in the painting is amazing, the young guy rinsing out a rag to the older fellow using the squeegie on the window to the traffic flowing in the background. To me it depicts normal everyday life in America.

  1. what roles of art are these works fulfilling?
I also really like it when art immortalizes the everyday. What will future generations think of us is largely based in what we leave behind.
